The medal for “outstanding achievements in the armed organs of the Ministry of the Interior” was a state decoration of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). It was established on 4 June 1959 and awarded to collectives and personnel of the armed structures of the MdI, as well as to civilians, for outstanding merit in the performance of duties, particularly in strengthening and consolidating the GDR. It could also be awarded to volunteer helpers of the People’s Police.

Description and wear:
The bronze medal has a diameter of approximately 31–32 mm. The obverse features a police star of about 20 mm, flanked by two oak branches. In the center of the star is the state flag of the GDR in shield form (in early versions without the full coat of arms). Below the star is a waving ribbon bearing the inscription in two lines: “FÜR AUSGEZEICHNETE / LEISTUNGEN” (“For outstanding achievements”).

The reverse shows the state coat of arms of the GDR.

The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest on a pentagonal ribbon bar covered in green fabric, with two vertical white stripes 1.5 mm wide, positioned 1.5 mm from the edges.
