Historical context: The German Democratic Republic (GDR / DDR) existed from 1949 to 1990 and was one of the principal states of the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War (1947-1991). The Cold War was a period of political, military, and ideological rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union, without direct military conflict between the two superpowers. During this period, the GDR established its armed forces, organizations, and award systems. Every surviving piece is more than just a collectible - it is an authentic witness to one of the most tense periods of the 20th century, carrying with it the story of an era that changed the course of Europe and the world.
