Lithium Polymer (LiPo) batteries are the successors to Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) batteries. Their greatest advantage is the excellent capacity-to-size ratio. They are extremely compact while delivering high current output, making them suitable for installation in virtually any AEG airsoft replica.

Another major advantage is that LiPo batteries have no memory effect, meaning they can be recharged at any time without being fully discharged first. In fact, frequent charging is beneficial for this type of battery.

To ensure safe operation, it is important that a LiPo battery:

• is not discharged below 3V per cell;
• is not charged above 4.2V per cell.

LiPo batteries also feature a very low self-discharge rate, losing only about 3-5% of their charge per month when not in use.

During long-term storage, the battery should be checked periodically. If the voltage drops below the minimum safe level (3V per cell), irreversible chemical reactions may occur, leading to reduced performance, permanent damage, or, in extreme cases, fire.

For storage, a LiPo battery should be kept at approximately 70% charge.

When used correctly, LiPo batteries typically have a lifespan of 500-700 charge/discharge cycles.

Operating temperature is also important. Unlike many other battery types, LiPo cells perform well in low temperatures; however, they should always be charged at room temperature.

To maintain optimal performance, the battery should be balanced during charging using the balancing connector (service plug), which is included on most LiPo batteries. A quality LiPo charger features a built-in balancer.
